Kun sain proton valmiiksi, nimi tuli itsestään: Duck light. Siihen piti tuleman vielä matkapuhelimen langaton laturikin, joten nimeen liitin vielä "and charger".
Suomeksi käännettynä: Ankka-lamppu ja laturi.
Ideoinnista ensimmäiseksi protoksi kesti noin päivän. Laitteen rakentamiseen ei
tainnut mennä paria tuntia enempää. Tietenkään siinä ei ollut vielä tarvittavia sähköisiä osia, jotka oli tilattava internetistä. Jos tilasi Euroopasta, tavaran sai parissa päivässä, mutta hinta oli noin viisinkertainen Kiinasta tulevaan verrattuna. Aikaa ei vain ollut odottaa 4-5 viikkoa, koska olin lähdössä Islantiin muotoilualan tapahtumaan (Design March) 9.3.2016 ja sinne halusin lampun tai lamppuja mukaan. Olin viemässä näyttelyyn myös kolme metallista vaatenaulakkoa, mutta tämä lamppujuttu oli jotain aivan muuta!
Tavoite onnistui ja sain mukaan neljä kappaletta valaisimia, joista kaksi oli varustettu laturilla. Laitteet saivat paljon huomiota näyttelyssä ja myin näyttelykappaleet ensimmäisenä päivänä. Lisätilauksiakin tuli, tosin lähinnä ystäväni kautta. Ystäväni on Kristín Gardarsdóttir, keraamikko, jonka kanssa olimme toista kertaa esillä tässä vuotuisessa tapahtumassa Reykjavíkissa.
Näyttelymme on auki varsinaisen Design March -tapahtuman jälkeenkin aina 10. päivään huhtikuuta asti Galleria Skörinissä, joka sijaitsee designmyymälä Kraumin yläkerrassa, Adalstraeti 10:ssä Reykjavíkissa. Facebookissa olen puhunut Galleria Kraumista, mutta se oli epätarkka tieto.
I was developing a new product in the end of February. It was a small tabletop lamp. When a proto was finished the name appeared by itself: Duck light. This device was to incorporate also a cordless charger unit for mobile phones so an addition to the name was needed, "and charger".
From the advent of an idea to the first prototype took about one day. Building the device didn't take more than a couple of hours. Of course, the necessary electric parts were still missing and those I had to order via the internet. Orders from Europe came in a couple of days but the merchandise cost five times compared to the same items ordered from China. I just didn't have the luxury of time since I was going to take part in a design event in Iceland (Design March) and was to travel on the 9th of March. I desperately wanted to have a lamp or lamps with me there. I was also going to take three pieces of metal clothes hangers with me but these lamps were something else!
I reached my goal and I travelled with four pieces of Duck lights, two equipped with the charging unit. Lights got a lot of positive attention in the exhibition and I sold the exhibition pieces on the first day. I got some further orders although mostly through a ceramist friend of mine, Kristín Gardarsdóttir. I was exhibiting the second time with her in this yearly event in Reykjavík.
Our exhibition is open even after the Design March event until the 10th of April in Gallery Skörin which is located on the top floor of a design shop Kraum in Adalstraeti 10, Reykjavík. In facebook I have spoken about Gallery Kraum but that is not correct.
